It's tough for Australia to break new ground.

The highest peaks have long been mastered.

This is the squad that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, in addition to an additional six T20 titles, and previously enjoyed 1,294 days without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, the ones sought by the record chasers, are all that remain for a team that has achieved everything.

It needed as late as Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase over 300, taking back their record for the largest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, honestly, a tribute to the pitchers that have sported the yellow jersey over the past 50 years.

It's difficult for their hitters to maintain a record if not afforded the possibility.

Ultimately, the outcome of Australia conceding 330 was skipper Alyssa Healy being given an opportunity to deliver her newest gem.

Then best known as the 19-year-old niece of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after her country failed to win either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups from the prior year and has experienced everything through 15 trophy-laden years since.

A T20 World Cup win came three months after her first appearance and seven world titles have resulted from 10 efforts across formats.

The gritty keeper was in attendance in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India briefly halted the winning streak.

That loss "pushed us to rethink our standards," Healy stated recently.

At the subsequent ODI World Cup in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the title decider and was awarded tournament MVP. She made sure her country would not fall short again.

Whether this latest epic knock exceeded that prior achievement is debatable.

Some will argue the reasoning behind final game tension. Others can counter with the difficulty that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What is certain is this hundred was much more difficult to see coming.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 occurred when she was the highest scorer, but this knock followed six innings in India since the start of last month in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"If you've been watching me in practice sessions, it has been a disappointing period because it appeared I lacked timing at all," commented Healy.

"But once you step out on the field, your competitive nature activate and you just lock into the competition."

Healy's fighting spirit has continuously been her major advantage - and a priceless quality in replacing famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, out to the young fast bowler in all three matches, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's inspiration.

A single came off the bowler's initial ball and from there Healy was on her way.

"The possibility to take the field and lock in a contest with her and just have a bit of fun in that regard, sort of got me going," commented Healy.

She got to fifty in 35 balls - her swiftest at the global tournament - and her ton in 84 deliveries while she attacked short-pitched balls, scoring 21 fours and three big hits.

Once she was out Australia needed 66 additional runs at one run per ball - an unconquered height now needing a comfortable finish.

"To chase 330 is uncharted waters so I'm pleased we have the belief to do that now," added Healy.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to do it another time but, should it happen, we are confident we can succeed."

These statements will be the final thing Australia's opponents at this tournament should hear.

Over the past five days a belief they will win from any position has grown stronger - this triumph succeeding success over Pakistan by 107-run victory despite being 76-7 at a certain moment.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before a match against longtime competitors England in Indore in ten days, by which point a semi-final berth may likely be confirmed.

It was in the semi-finals they were eliminated from last year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - a match Healy missed because of torn tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the inaugural occasion at an important competition.

Such is her determination, she afterwards commented she wanted to have participated with the discomfort.

But while she later admitted those fitness problems have delayed thoughts of retirement, this World Cup is expected to be her final tournament as skipper in ODI cricket and she is still to achieve an international tournament as skipper.

Triumph in India would bring her to the top of her last major obstacle.
