As any significant prize-giving event approaches, one notices a clamor to include of new categories to recognize overlooked contributions and fill the hearts of enthusiasts who have specialized interests.
Another commentator has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. So would board games, which is a passionate advocate's mission. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front just as with other single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request stands as crucial above others. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create a category for puzzle games.
Organizing Gaming Categories
Organizing artistic expressions defies precise measurement; opinions vary greatly, and it will always spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. There’s a reason movie academies steer clear of genre categories. But it is an unavoidable compromise in the world of gaming, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.
Existing Game Classification System
Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature genre categories for Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these classifications effectively encompass a lot of ground, making space possible for most games within them.
Not so for brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears to put them. Think about these outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: structural challenges of one title, intense tile-matching of another game, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. What category would fit them within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.
Recognition Challenges
There are dozens excellent brain-teasers launched regularly lacking appropriate categories during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.
- An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated completely during that awards season
- Another imaginative release missed out in 2019
- A beloved organization game was overlooked recently
- Limited numbers of brain-teasers scraped into small studio or handheld classifications
Significance of Puzzle Games
Frequently they represent compact experiences, yet the craft in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Well-known matching games count as most engaged experiences worldwide maintaining this status for over a decade.
The iconic tile-matching title challenges well-known building titles claiming status as most purchased experience; it also contends for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational for gaming as medium, and engaging with diverse game types.
The Solution and Justification
Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. It would be easy to populate a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent numerous deserving experiences.
Restating the point, these represent titles without proper classification at major gaming awards. Puzzle game makers operate at the hard edge game development, creating some of most fundamental forms of the video game form. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay generations.
